Sunday Surfing: Godecookery.com review

Full Disclosure: The owner of this website is my mentor and I am a member of the Godecookery staff.

Where I come from, the standard for medieval cooking research is Godecookery.com. Owned and operated by James Matterer (known in the SCA as Master Hogge de Watlynge, formerly known as Master Huen Dambrigge of Wychwood), the Godecookery site is an amazing resource for recipes, information, and clip art related to historical food research.

James has had some personal issues over the last couple of years that has kept him away from the site. As of April of this year, he is able to spend more time doing what he does so well - providing information about historical food research. The site is undergoing a significant revision and the changes promise to be only of benefit to the historical cooking community.

Additionally, the Godecookery discussion group is again active. If you are a food historian or just have an interest in medieval food history, this list is a valuable resource and I highly recommend that you subscribe.

Godecookery has a YouTube site that includes video of feasts, events, museum pieces related to food research, and behind-the-scenes footage of James’ (and Tammy Crawford’s) appearances on the Food Network’s “..the Secret Life Of” series.

The site is an incredible resource and James is a passionate and knowledgeable amateur food historian who continues to support the historical cooking community by sharing his vast amounts of information with anyone that wants it. I am associated with him because I believe in what he does and hope to share even a tenth of what he has given to the community over the years.

I am sure that once you visit the Godecookery site, you will agree with my assessment.
